FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can anyone join? Do you have to live in Kinnelon or be affiliated with a particular political party?
We welcome all local community members who resonate with our values and mission. Our members represent Kinnelon and neighboring towns, as well as all political parties. You can learn more at www.kinnelonunited.com.
What exactly do you do?
We engage in a number of charitable endeavors. Some of our current + past projects and initiatives include:
Collecting prom-wear donations for local high school students
Coordinating leftover Easter candy donations to troops overseas
Collecting business attire donations for veterans
We also advocate for our fellow community members and seek transparency and fairness in our local representation. We are proud residents of Kinnelon and New Jersey and want to see our town and state thrive as supportive places to live.
What types of events do you hold?
We host both social and informative events to balance community building with advocacy.
Our social events include a monthly book club and periodic backyard gatherings to help us get to know one another as neighbors. Our advocacy-level events have included rallies, postcard writing parties to remind NJ residents about upcoming elections, and outreach to help eligible voters check their registration and polling locations.
How often do you meet? / What kind of time commitment does it involve?
Participation in all events and meetings is 100% optional and based on your capacity. We meet as a group once a month, and hold additional events several times a month based on member interest and availability.
Is there a fee to join?
No, our group is free to join. Because we are an all-volunteer group, we occasionally raise money for initiatives or include small fees for special events, but there is never pressure to contribute more than your means or comfort level. Participation is optional and we work hard to prioritize free events whenever possible.
If you’re not partisan, why do you support Democratic candidates?
We do not officially endorse any political candidate and we are not beholden to one political party. We will, as an organization, support candidates who represent fairness and inclusivity, eschew extremist views, and ultimately propose or uphold policy that stands to serve the greater good of all people.
Why does your website sound so political?
As a group, Kinnelon United is all about supporting the residents of Kinnelon first and foremost, as well as residents of New Jersey and The United States as a whole, when appropriate. The best way we can do that is to stay informed of policy being enacted at the local, state, and federal levels, understand how that impacts our fellow community members, and advocate for what will help us all thrive.
